How much would labor cost to tile the bathtub surround?

We have everything we'd need to tile ourselves, but wanted to know if, time wise, it might be better to get a professional to tile it. We currently have a plastic surround that we could easily take down ourselves, so basically, putting up cement board, laying tile, and then the grout and sealer would be all we'd need. How much does doing the standard size bath surround typically cost. The tiles are porcelain, even though I think they look ceramic, and are 12x12. These door to door people quoted us over a grand, and I pretty much laughed at them. I'm tired of these "project managers" who take half the profit, when they don't even do any work. Anyway... Thanks!
