Do i need gasket sealer? 1997 grand am 2.4 water pump?

i just pulled off the water pump and was wondering if i needed some gasket sealer to put on the pump. it came with some paper looking gaskets so i was questioning their strenght. also, do i need sealer on the thermostat housing?
